Jack French London LTD – Corporate magician

Jack French London St. Pancras UnveilingValentine’s Day St. Pancras International Station – Magician London

Last Thursday (14th February 2013) I was hired by the fabulous handbag company Jack French London to be their corporate magician at a Valentine’s day promotional event held at London’s St. Pancras International Station with media and celebrity attendance, exciting stuff!

Keep read on to find out what happened…

Corporate magician – branding magic with Jack French London photo:

Corporate Magician Oliver Parker - Jack French London I prepared several brand specific magic tricks leading up to the event to help the name and image stick in people’s minds in a truly memorable way! There’s a video above of me showing my sceptical brother and his partner just one of the bits of magic I was performing on the day.

Last minute I also thought about doing something with one of the Jack French London t-shirts they gave me just a day before, but I wanted to dress marginally smarter on the day so decided not to go with a t-shirt, here’s a quick video of me practising though for your enjoyment:

(Apologies for the crumbs on the kitchen surface, I’d just made sandwiches to fuel me for the long day ahead!)

London event entertainersThursday morning I hopped on the train straight to London for the grand unveiling – Jack French had designed a limited edition St. Pancras clutch bag with only 50 available, but not only that – they’d created a gigantic mock-up to style out the lady of the ‘Meeting place statue’ upstairs at the end of the Grand Terrace.

Before guests started to arrive I kept the waiting photographers and reporters happy with close up card magic, but a crowd quickly gathered around mid day for the big unveiling with press, photographers, videographers, a string quartet and ballroom dancers all building up the excitement…

Whilst I was in full mix and mingle magician mode with a group of guests, one of them turned and mentioned: “Oh, Kate’s arrived.”Kate Moss was stood not too far away with her big anti-paparazzi sunglasses on, a second later a photographer pushed passed me and ran towards her! Unfortunately, the rush of photographers scared Kate Moss away before I had chance to meet her as she legged it into a nearby restaurant for lunch to avoid all the attention! But not before Jack French managed to get a photo with her – all good for their promotion I suppose!

Some guests moved into the private bar area for canapés and others headed straight for the pop up Jack French London shop, which is open until 13th March in St. Pancras station – if you’re passing and you like shopping, why not pop in? – Not me though, I hate shopping… and I’m also not camp enough to pull off a ladies handbag, but you might be

During the 3 hours I was booked as their corporate magician I ‘worked my magic’ for their guests, press and also members of the company to give people something different to talk about, including:

Martin Penny, chairman and also the co-founder of your girlfriends favourite hair straightener company – GHD, who had this to say about me:

“It’s annoying how GOOD you are!”

I also met legendary soul singer Beverley Knight who was so stunned when I got her and her friend involved in my close up magic, she couldn’t help but say:

“How the F@£K did you just do that with my phone?!”

I tweeted Beverley after the event and she replied with this lovely comment:

“Your act was insane! I cannot for the love of god figure out how you did that, ace!”

By the way @funprovider is my Twitter username – go follow me!

So throughout the afternoon people kept mentioning that Kate Moss might come back after her lunch but with about half an hour left of the event she contacted one of the staff to let them know she wasn’t up to all the media attention and wouldn’t be returning. Shame, I’ve read she’s a fan of magic too, her loss I suppose…

After the event I conveniently walked over the road to Kings Cross station and got on the train straight back to Leeds – easier than driving to a local event!

Recent Event Statistics

“So… have you had much work on recently?”

This is something I’ve been asked countless times, not just by friends, but from guests at events and people interested in booking a close up magician. So I thought I would take a moment to calculate and share some interesting statistics from the last couple of months.

In July and August alone…Birthday party magician

I was hired to perform close up magic at 27 different events in the last 2 months! That averages out at around 3 and a third events per week, although the majority were obviously at weekends.

Out of those 27, I was performing as a wedding magician on 10 different couples big days, an adult Birthday party magician at 8 events, a night club magician on 3 different occasions, wedding anniversary magician on a few other dates, as well as a corporate magician, engagement party magician and even as a Christening magician!

So how many scenic drives has your new car had?

“You guys did an excellent job on the dance floor and you did a fantastic job as a magician. People are talking about you still!” – Curt Johnson

These events have included performances as far as Gorleston-on-sea in Great Yarmouth for a 40th Birthday party where I was hired to perform magic followed by a breakdance show with my crew at a beautiful location next to the best British beach I’ve ever seen – this 5+ hour journey required an overnight stay! Another close up magician slot followed by a breakdance show combo was for an Envision event at Leeds City Museum.

Night Club Magician – Performing at Mission in Leeds

I’ve also entertained at Entourage night club in Manchester, weddings in Richmond, Great Broughton in Middlesbrough, The Rudding Park Hotel in Harrogate, Rothwell in Leeds, Halifax, The Waterton Park Hotel at Walton Hall in Wakefield (one of my favourite venues!), Brighouse, Huddersfield, a couple of Asian weddings – one of which at the Craiglands Hotel in Ilkley (another favourite venue!), a close up magic show in Giggleswick, a party in Whitby, a nightclub in Bradford, as well as several events in and around Leeds! It was nice to be back to my home town of Horsforth in Leeds for a joint 50th and 21st Birthday party too!

Yorkshire Wedding Magician

Wedding Magician in Tunstall, Richmond – North Yorkshire

I was actually booked as a surprise for several of these events – a surprise magician seems to be a really popular idea at the moment and always goes down really well!

Of course every single event was enormous fun, I met a lot of fantastic people and I’ve been encouraged to push even harder to learn new and exciting magic to get great reactions from the guests!

And the last statistic:

I received 100% positive feedback from the people who booked me :) including emails of thanks from very satisfied Brides & Grooms and testimonials from ecstatic clients on my Feedback page as well as my Google+ Corporate & Wedding Magician page!

So that’s mostly what I’ve been up to in this none existent summer – having a totally awesome time amazing the heck out of, what must have been, thousands of people at plenty of different events!

Coming up this week I’ll be performing office magic as a corporate magician for O2 again in Leeds for their Guru department’s 1st Anniversary, a surprise wedding magician in Bradford (shhhhh, don’t tell them) and adding a touch of my magic to a 50th Birthday party in Chapel Allerton!

So now you know I’ve got plenty of performance experience up my sleeves (but nothing else, honest) and am a full time professional close up magician – you know you can trust me as your specialist close up magician.

I’m expecting Christmas party magician season this year to be even busier than these last 2 months so if you’re in need of something different to break the ice and give your guests/staff something fun to chat about…

Add a sprinkle of awesomeness to your event

Wedding Magician Testimonial

Interactive Wedding Magician in Scarborough Feedback:

Hi Oliver,

We just wanted to say thank you again for helping to make our big day extra special.

Our guests were still talking about your performance long after you had gone and we had to endure the kids trying to recreate your tricks all day on Sunday.

The fact that you stayed beyond your allocated time to show us both some magic after our guests had gone inside was very much appreciated.

Take care and kindest regards,

Stewart & Kerry

I love receiving testimonials from my clients, especially when I haven’t asked for one – it’s always reassuring that I’m doing my job right :)

Although I did receive a rather dashing bouquet of flowers after performing at one event a while back…the award for Best Testimonial Presentation so far still has to be a custom printed greetings card with a photo on the front of the groom holding his chosen playing card mid magic trick and a lovely hand written message of thanks inside! I was pleasantly surprised when I received it and it’s been on my desk ever since, I even take it with me and display it at wedding fairs! If I get chance I’ll scan in the card and add another blog post at some point.

I was hired for a few different weddings towards the end of this Summer in Scarborough – luckily all were on really sunny beautiful days, even the one in the middle of September!

Although I’m based in Leeds, I do enjoy the opportunity to travel with my work… particularly when I’m not rushed with other bookings in the same day. I like making a day out of it and also treating my girlfriend if she’s not working!

After one performance at the Ambassador Hotel as a surprise wedding drinks reception magician for 30 minutes, which went down a storm, my girlfriend and I had a great afternoon walking along Scarborough’s North Bay. After I had changed out of my formal magic attire, I even managed to get in an obligatory b-boy photo of me doing a handstand in front of the coast and castle. (Breakdancing is another passion of mine, after magic of course!)

Breakdancing in Scarborough

Anyway, my point was… I think I had a point about this post… I love travelling and performing at all sorts of different events and venues, just as much as I like performing at all the usual events in ye olde Leeds!

So if anybody is organising an event in Cuba, I’d quite like to go there and would be happy perform close up magic at a Cuban party… Anybody organising an event in Cuba…anybody? No? Ok, worth a shot!
